UEIL has published a position paper urging the European Commission to take action on the enforcement of Chapter XIV of Regulation (EU) 2018/858 (the Repair and Maintenance Information Regulation).
Despite clear legal provisions and repeated confirmations from the European Commission that lubricant technical specifications fall within the scope of repair and maintenance information (RMI), UEIL members continue to face significant obstacles in accessing this data from Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). National Type Approval Authorities have so far failed to enforce compliance, leaving independent operators and SMEs at a competitive disadvantage.
UEIL warns that this lack of enforcement undermines competition in the automotive aftermarket, limits consumer choice, raises repair costs, and jeopardises vehicle safety and environmental compliance.
UEIL is now calling on the Commission to launch corrective actions and engage with national authorities to ensure fair access to RMI and a level playing field for all market participants.
