From May 31 to June 2 in the beautiful city of Manchester, UK, we will explore the topic of sustainability along different stages of the value chain, with the aim of understanding and securing the future of the European lubricant manufactures.

The 2023 UEIL Annual Congress will take place in the beautiful city of Manchester, UK.

Andrew Goddard
Andrew Goddard is President of the United Kingdom Lubricants Association and Executive Chairman of Morris Lubricants.
Andrew graduated from Cardiff University before beginning his career with Lubrizol and Exxon Mobil. He joined Morris Lubricants in 1996; he is a 5th generation and direct descendent of Morris Lubricants’ founder James Kent Morris. In 2008, Andrew was appointed Managing Director of Morris Lubricants and became Executive Chairman in 2018.
Alistair Smith
Alistair Smith is a Managing Economist within the Environment Team at Cambridge Econometrics. Alistair’s work focuses on the development and application of modelling tools in the fields of economics and energy. Alistair has worked on projects for clients including the UK’s CCC, the European Commission, IRENA, and OPEC.
Gabriella Twining
Gabriella Twining is responsible for European base oil market coverage at Argus, contributing to spot prices, market commentary and analysis to Argus’s weekly global base oils report. Gabriella is an experienced commodity reporter, having previously covered the Biomass desk. Prior to Argus, she reported on and provided analysis for IHS Markit in its Maritime and Trade department after several years of working in ship management at CMA CGM.
Carlo Rovea
Carlo is currently the Director for Global Procurement at Infineum and is based in Italy. At Infineum, Carlo held various positions in manufacturing, supply chain, procurement, marketing, and finance during assignments in Italy, the UK, and most recently, China and then in Singapore. Infineum is a global speciality chemicals company and exists to create a sustainable future through innovative chemistry.
Terry Dicken
Terry Dicken is a Chartered chemist and holds a BSc (Hons) degree in applied chemistry and an MSc in Instrumental chemical analysis. He has worked in the lubricants industry for almost 50 years in research and development, technical services & marketing and technology transfer.
Currently, he is Managing Director of Global Lubricants Ltd, a speciality lubricants company he founded in the UK in 1997, but also works as an independent consultant for several companies on REACH compliance, product development and plant construction.
He has published many papers on lubrication and is a regular speaker at international conferences.
Terry has been Chairman of ELGI (European Lubricating Grease Institute) since 1998 and is also Chairman of the Institute of Energy’s cutting fluids test methods panel, STC5, a role he has fulfilled since the early 80s, and he established and was first Chairman of ASTM – M committee for aviation greases.
Steve Mayo
Steve joined Certas Lubricant Solutions in June 2021 as Managing Director of Certas European lubricants business. Prior to joining Certas, Steve worked for the global industrial lubricants business Quaker Houghton for 16 years as Regional Director for Northern Europe and was also Commercial Director for a speciality chemicals and lubricants business with manufacturing plants in the UK, USA, India and China.
Steve’s career in lubricants stretches across more than 35 years and includes roles in various functional areas, including manufacturing & operations, procurement, technical, marketing and sales.
Yana Wilkinson
Based in London, Yana Wilkinson is the global leader of Kline’s Energy practice. With over 15 years of experience in management consulting, her practice focuses on downstream energy specialties, namely the whole lubricants value chain and adjacencies, including a broad range of automotive and industrial end-use applications. Engagements led by her team include strategy support and market intelligence. Examples of projects include market insight and intelligence, facilitating strategy review and development, business growth and market entry, opportunity identification, M&A, and more.

Detlev Bruhnke
Detlev Bruhnke has more than 30 years of experience in the re-refining and lubricants industry and is a Board Member of AVISTA OIL AG since 2007. Detlev holds an MSc and a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Braunschweig in Germany. After joining the AVISTA group in 1991, he worked as Laboratory Manager and Head of the R&D Department before serving as Technical Managing Director for AVISTA OIL Deutschland GmbH from 2007 to 2021. Having been active in different business associations for more than 20 years, Detlev is currently the Executive President of the German Used Oil Association BVA and a Board Member of the European Re-refining Association GEIR. Since October 2022, he is also Board Member of UEIL (Independent Union of the European Lubricant Industry).
Miltos Bantis
Miltos Bantis is the Managing Director of LPC S.A, a fully vertical supplier and trader of Lubricants, Greases and Other Petroleum products located in Greece, a member of the Motor Oil Hellas Group of Companies.
Miltos is a Chemical Engineer and started his journey in LPC in 2005, undertaking roles of increasing responsibility across the Supply Chain, becoming Plant Manager in 2014 and Managing Director in 2020. During his career, he has set up production plants, led numerous refinery production Improvement projects, optimized organizational process flows, and engineered the opening of new markets that have led LPC to become a company serving more than 55 countries worldwide.
Moreover, he is leading the LPC ecosystem towards sustainable development, where LPC’s re-refinery plays a key role in supporting Greece in reaching its country WLO collection targets.

Markus Garb
Markus Garb is the Vice President Sustainability and Chief Sustainability Officer at FUCHS PETROLUB SE. He is a passionate driver of sustainability standards in the lubricants industry. With an academic background in Mechanical Engineering, Markus Garb began his professional career in the automation industry, serving as project and product manager at ABB. Entering FUCHS in 2003, Markus has spent 16 years in Automotive Lubricants Product Management for FUCHS Schmierstoffe GmbH, starting with application-focused technical roles, first on engine oils, followed by transmission fluids and successively assuming management roles such as European and Global Product Manager Automotive. Since 2019 Markus Garb works for FUCHS Petrolub SE, and in May 2020, he took over responsibility for FUCHS’ corporate sustainability activities. Aside from his corporate role, Markus Garb was a Member of the UEIL TC for many years, and since 2022 he acts as Chairman of the UEIL Sustainability Committee.
Mikka Kettunen
Mika Kettunen received his MSc from the University of Helsinki in 2000. He holds a PhD in Chemistry, and prior to his industry career, he has done research work in Finland, Ireland, Germany and the US.
Mika joined the Chevron Base Oils team in 2022 as Technical Product Manager and is the global sustainability lead for base oils. He has 15 years of industry experience before joining Chevron from Neste, where he supported Base Oil sales and production with responsibility for formulation development projects in driveline and industrial applications. He worked in close cooperation with additive manufacturers and Neste R&D as Technical Product Manager.
Mika chairs an ATIEL Sustainability Committee, which is cooperating with UEIL and other associations to harmonize the carbon footprint calculations in the industry. Mika represents Finland in the CEN (European Committee for Standardization) working group for Bio-Lubricants and has been a member of the UEIL Sustainability Task Force, which created the strategy to align a common sustainability agenda for the European lubricants industry.
Maurizio Abbondanza
Maurizio has more than 25 years of experience in the lubricant additives industry and has been a senior executive at Infineum since 2011 and holds a Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Genoa in Italy. In his role as Sustainability and Business Director, Maurizio is accountable for the coordination, design and execution of the Sustainability strategy of the corporation, integrating it into a coherent Sustainable Corporate Strategy. In other words, putting sustainability at the heart of everything Infineum does to put its mission into practice: create a sustainable future through innovative chemistry.
