The Malaysian State Oil Company PETRONAS, well known from sponsoring Formule 1 autocar racing and the PETRONAS TWIN TOWERS in Kuala Lumpur, decided in 2004 to build a production unit for Group III Base Oils as PETRONAS process the waxy Tapis Crude Oil. Production of the Base Oils started in 2008. The Hydro Dewaxing and Hydrofinishing guaranteed an excellent Group III quality mainly being used in top tier synthetic motoroils. Total capacity of the production Unit MG 3 is approx. 300.000 mtons. The main market for this type of Base Oils is in Europe. So Petronas founded PETRONAS MARKETING (Netherlands) BV. on September 4 , 2007. First delivery of the Base Oil named ETRO came to Europe end December 2008. Meanwhile the downstream distribution to many Independent blenders throughout all of Europe is realized. In the same market channel Petronas Rotterdam started to distribute, beside the well-known ETRO products, also Group I Base Oils. |
